The European Council is likely to reconsider the statement on its website that Ukraine should win the conflict. This was reported by Politico newspaper on December 20.

"It was written on the council's website that 'Ukraine must win' <...> But a council spokesman said that this was a mistake and it would be corrected," the publication wrote, citing a press release dated December 16.

The publication also noted that in the conclusion of December 19, the European Council said that "Russia should not prevail," which was a contradiction to the statement of the head of European Union (EU) diplomacy Kai Kallas that Ukraine should win, Gazeta.Ru adds.

Earlier, on December 19, EU leaders stressed at the end of the summit in Brussels that discussions on peace in Ukraine should be held only with Kiev's participation. In addition, they confirmed their intention to continue supporting Kiev, including military support. Thus, the country intends to allocate €30.6 billion in 2025: €12.5 billion - from the European Fund for Support of Ukraine and €18.1 billion - from the program of loans of the G7 countries for €45 billion with repayment at the expense of income from the assets of the Russian Federation.

Prior to that, on December 12, Reuters reported that the European Union was considering the possibility of creating a coalition to send troops to Ukrainian territory. The Wall Street Journal newspaper wrote at the time that US President-elect Donald Trump proposed to deploy European military there to monitor the ceasefire.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the backdrop of the worsening situation in the region.
