The City of Light festival of optical illusions started in Moscow

Magic portals of the City of Light festival will open on buildings in the center of the capital on December 20. It is held as part of the "Winter in Moscow" project. Video projections and video installations will tell New Year stories to the audience. Every evening until January 20 on the facades of 10 architectural objects it will be possible to watch the life of fairy-tale characters.

Modern technologies helped the festival organizers to create an atmosphere of magic. Video projections and video installations harmoniously integrated into the unique corners of the capital will tell New Year stories to the audience.

Thus, at 18:00 the building of the old Novikov mansion on Bolshaya Polyanka (Bashmet Center) will turn into an "Ice Castle" of the Snow Queen. With the help of video mapping - 3D projection on an architectural object taking into account its geometry - the facades will be covered with ice and snow patterns, changing their outlines. Passers-by will be able to admire the mistress of the castle, Kai and Gerda and witness scenes from the famous fairy tale.

Children this winter will be pleased to meet Carlson, who will live behind the chimney of the house on Kuznetsky Most. In the evenings he will appear on the roof and prank: open presents, pour jam, fly over the city and watch passers-by.

"Windows into the fairy tale" will open in Stoleshnikov Lane. The spectators will see a magic conveyor belt with presents, an oak tree near the oak tree and the Firebird, as well as Santa Claus and a waterman on a fishing trip. Each "window" will have its own story.

On the dome of the Moscow Planetarium Ded Moroz will go on a space journey. The magician will fly on a rocket, light up the inscription "Happy New Year!" in outer space, ride a triple on the ring of Saturn and put his flag on the surface of the Moon.

On the facade of the State Academic Central Puppet Theater named after S.V. Obraztsov, video mapping will bring the magic clock to life. The dial will change, and 3D portals will open inside, from which characters from famous fairy tales will appear.

On Theater Square in front of the Bolshoi Theater, festival guests will be able not only to see how the huge facade of the building turns into New Year cards, but also to send them to their friends. The Quar Code will also be displayed on the facade, it will be possible to photograph it and download your favorite postcards to your phone.

You will be able to see most of the video projections and video installations every day until January 20 from 18:00 to 23:00. "New Year's postcard" will unfold on Teatralnaya Square from 19:00 to 23:00, and on December 31 and January 1, all fairy-tale paintings can be seen around the clock.

For the first time the festival "City of Light" was held in the capital in the summer of 2024. Media installations created with the use of the latest technologies and artificial intelligence were presented as part of the forum-festival "Territory of the Future. Moscow 2030" in Zaryadye Park.
