Sovfed approved a ban on admission to schools of migrant children without knowledge of the Russian language

At its plenary session on December 20, the Federation Council approved a law banning the admission to Russian schools of migrant children without knowledge of the Russian language.

The document, first of all, provides for a mandatory check of the legality of the child's stay on Russian territory. Then the future schoolchild must successfully pass a test for knowledge of the Russian language - then he will be enrolled in an educational institution.

It is specified that the control of knowledge will be free of charge. The order of testing will be established by the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation, and methodological support - Rosobrnadzor.

The Council of Ministers noted that the law will come into force on April 1, 2025.

The State Duma passed the law in the second and third readings

On the eve of the Russian President Vladimir Putin during the "Results of the year" supported the law adopted by the State Duma of the Russian Federation on the prohibition to accept the children of migrants who do not speak Russian language for education in schools. The President pointed out that in the absence of such a measure, the question arises as to how to teach such children.

The law prohibiting enrollment in schools of migrant children who do not know the Russian language was adopted by the State Duma deputies on December 11. According to the document, verification of the child's knowledge of the language and legality of stay on the territory of the Russian Federation should be mandatory before enrollment in school.

Prior to that, on November 5, the President instructed to prepare a federal algorithm for working with the children of migrants, who have a poor command of the Russian language or do not speak it at all. He recalled that foreign applicants for admission to Russian universities are tested in Russian language, and noted that it should receive a unified standard.
