Russian cloud services market to grow by 32% in 2024

The Russian cloud services market continues to be one of the fastest growing segments of the IT market, significantly outpacing the average annual growth rate of the entire IT market (19%). By the end of 2024, the volume of the cloud market will reach 168.1 billion rubles, according to the results of the research of MTS Web Services (MWS), which were presented to Izvestia on December 20. Over the year, the market has grown by 32%.
Experts noted that cloud technologies not only provide flexibility and scalability, but also serve as a basis for the creation of cloud-native products and services, which confirms their growing role in the market and rapid implementation in various industries. Cloud services are defined as Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) and Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) segments.
According to analysts, the laaS/PaaS market size in 2023 amounted to 127 billion rubles.
"An important aspect to assess the contribution of laaS/PaaS to the IT market is the share of cloud from the volume of Software and Hardware verticals. In 2023, this indicator grew one and a half times in five years and the penetration of cloud services in the Software and Hardware verticals amounted to 7.3% in 2023. MWS experts forecast that this indicator will increase in the near future and will reach 8.2% in 2024," the study said.
At the same time, the experts specified that the Russian market is also witnessing the active implementation of private clouds and the growing trend for hybrid scenarios, in which the infrastructure is located both in the cloud and in its own data centers. According to preliminary MWS estimates, the share of companies operating in a hybrid format ranges from 15 to 50% among those already using cloud solutions.
"One of the main trends in the Russian cloud market is AI Cloud. By the end of 2024, AI Cloud will be at least 80 billion rubles and will continue to grow with an average annual growth rate 2024-2028 of over 40%. In terms of structure, in 2024, more than 80% of the AI Cloud market will be formed by the Hardware vertical, while less than 20% is accounted for by the Software and IT-Services verticals as part of Managed Services. It is worth noting that this proportion will continue and the structure of the AI Cloud market will not change," the analysts added.
Earlier, on November 28, Kamil Khuzhiakhmetov, founder of the Russian laptop brand Echips, told Izvestia that Russian laptops will rise in price by 20% in 2025. He attributed the increase in their cost to the rise in income tax, the growth of the Central Bank's key rate, and complex netting schemes with Chinese partners.
