As a result of the collision of passenger and freight trains in the Murmansk region, only 42 people were injured. This was reported to journalists by Assistant Minister of Health of the Russian Federation Alexei Kuznetsov on December 20.
At the same time, 20 people remain in hospitals, he specified.
"There are 14 people in hospitals in the Murmansk region, six of them, including one child, in serious condition. Eight people, including two children - in a state of moderate severity. Another six people are in hospitals in St. Petersburg," Interfax quoted him as saying .
Kuznetsov added that the injured in St. Petersburg hospitals are in a state of mild severity. Another 22 people are receiving medical care on an outpatient basis.
Earlier, December 19, the press service of Russian Railways reported on the restoration of train traffic at the site of collision of passenger and freight trains in the Murmansk region. Then the trains were passing in reverse mode along one track.
Thecollision of two trains occurred on December 18 at the arrival of a passenger train at the station Knyazhaya. The passenger train, traveling on the route Murmansk - St. Petersburg, collided with a freight train. As a result of the collision, three cars of the passenger train and several freight cars derailed.
According to the latest data, the accident killed two people.
A criminal case under Article 263 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation was initiated on the fact of the accident. According to preliminary data, the collision of the trains occurred due to spontaneous movement of a faulty freight train.
