Russian Prosecutor General Igor Krasnov has instructed all prosecutors to regularly monitor food prices and prevent their unjustified increase. He said this on December 20, speaking at a meeting of the Federation Council.

"I have instructed all prosecutors to regularly check prices, monitor them and see that the price increase is justified, if there is one," Krasnov said.

He said that producers are always trying to increase the price of their food products, so this should be closely monitored. This is especially true for the prices of significant goods such as milk and bread.

"We will further force both chains and producers not to increase prices, in case there is no financial, economic justification for this. Many cunning under various sauces, trying to increase prices. Once again, I say, you can't do that, it's wrong," Krasnov added.

According to him, the Russian Prosecutor's Office knows the prices of all goods, and if there is an unjustified overpricing, the agency will intervene and solve the problem.

Earlier, on December 19, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the rise in prices in Russia is due to a combination of objective and subjective factors, one of them is the rapid growth of incomes of the population. The second objective reason is related to the harvest, the third is the rise in world prices for some products. He also noted a certain impact of sanctions, which are not of key importance, but somehow make logistics more expensive.
