Fyodor Vasiliev, a construction expert, founder and CEO of the company "GLASNAB", told about the three most popular schemes of fraud in renovation.

The most common method, according to the expert, is putting an expensive price tag on extra work.

"When the brigade comes to take measurements and gives the customer an estimate, many look only at the rates of basic work - plastering, puttying, wallpapering, tile laying, etc. <...> Many overlook additional work, such as, for example, priming, installation of lighting fixtures, drilling for electrical cables, installation of outlets, for which the performers can charge a price," he said in a conversation with "Gazeta.Ru".

Vasiliev also said that brigades often try to ask the customer for additional funds due to "unforeseen circumstances."

"As the work is being done, unforeseen circumstances that come out of nowhere start to pop up. For example, they promise to paint the walls for 10,000 rubles, but they don't tell you the details and answer all your questions that they will do everything themselves. After the work starts, it turns out that the walls need additional primer (another 5,000 rubles), putty (7,000 rubles), and the paint you chose is not suitable and needs more expensive (another 10,000 rubles)," he explained.

As the expert added, workers can request more materials than required and simply resell the rest.

"Even if you personally came to the site and made sure that the quantity corresponds to the declared, do not rush to conclusions: the transparency and honesty of the workers may be contrived. As soon as you leave, no one rules out that in 20 minutes the right amount of goods will go to the side," Vasiliev cautioned.

In order not to encounter such fraud schemes, the expert advised to choose a brigade by reviews, communicate with previous customers, as well as carefully read the contract.

Earlier, on December 17, Vasiliev told about cases when repairs can be made at the expense of the developer or the authorities. According to him, free interior decoration or repair can be provided in the following cases: violation of contract terms by the developer, emergencies caused by the management company or authorities, as well as when the house is recognized as an emergency or resettlement of citizens in new housing.
