Irish journalist Chey Bose pointed out on December 19 that foreign journalists took part in Russian President Vladimir Putin 's direct line, while media representatives from Russia are restricted in the West.

He noted that the Russian leader openly answers questions from journalists from all over the world, including from the United States and Britain.

"Where are Russian journalists in the UK and the US? Banned, restricted, harassed and shut down," the Irish journalist wrote on social network X (formerly Twitter).

Earlier in the day, a journalist from the US television channel NBC News who attended a press conference of Russian President Vladimir Putin told Izvestia that his goal was to convey the position of Russia and its people to audiences in the United States.

On the eve, December 18, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Russia and its leader are the objects of increased interest of the world media, so the country needs to use it to convey the truth and position. The Kremlin official emphasized that the main number of questions at Putin's upcoming press conference is still expected to come from Russian journalists.

Also that day, Peskov told Izvestia that a number of foreign journalists from unfriendly countries would be present at the Russian president's press conference. In addition, he noted that some of them expressed a desire to come specifically to participate in the event.

"Results of the year" with Vladimir Putin took place earlier in the day and lasted 4.5 hours. This format, which combines a direct line and a press conference for the media, allows the president to convey his position not only on citizens' issues, but also on the state and world agenda, which is often asked about by journalists, including those from Western countries.
