The current U.S. President Joe Biden will visit Rome in January. This was announced by the White House on December 19.

"President Joseph R. Biden - Jr. will travel to Rome, Italy, from January 9 to 12," - stated in a message on the website of the Department.

Biden is reportedly planning to meet with His Holiness Pope Francis on Jan. 10 as part of his visit to Italy to discuss "efforts to promote world peace."

The U.S. leader is also scheduled to meet with Italian President Sergio Mattarella and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.

"He will also meet with Italian leaders to emphasize the strength of the U.S.-Italy relationship, thank Prime Minister Meloni for her strong leadership of the G7 over the past year, and discuss important challenges facing the world," the White House added.

Earlier on Dec. 6, Biden refused to attend the opening ceremony of the Cathedral of Notre Dame de Paris in France due to a "scheduling conflict." It is reported that Biden sent his wife Jill to the opening ceremony instead.
