Nebenzia called for an end to interference in the conflict in Sudan

The UN Security Council (UNSC) and individual countries should stop interfering in the conflict in Sudan. This was stated by Russia's permanent representative to the UN Vasily Nebenzya at the Security Council meeting on Sudan on December 19.
"A pernicious influence on what is happening in Sudan is external interference in its internal affairs, which should be excluded. External fueling of the conflict and the aspirations of certain states to implement dubious political engineering schemes in the country only aggravate the situation of ordinary Sudanese," his words are quoted on the website of the postpresidency.
Nebenzya noted that the main task now remains the ceasefire in Sudan. However, he said, it is necessary for the parties to the conflict to agree on it directly.
"We will continue to resolutely suppress any attempts to encroach on the sovereignty of this friendly country," the post-representative added.
In addition, Nebenzya noted that the Sudanese leadership is aware that stabilization in the country is directly linked to a "peaceful transition."
"It has relevant initiatives under consideration to put these tasks into practice," the diplomat specified.
Earlier, on November 10, acting deputy head of the Sudanese Foreign Ministry Hussein Al-Hajj said that Russia can help end the conflict in Sudan by playing a key role in its settlement. According to the diplomat, mercenaries from some African countries are involved in the conflict from the opposite side, and Moscow could explain to these states the importance of the stability of Sudan's borders.
Prior to that, on September 26, it was reported about a large-scale offensive of the Sudanese army on the capital Khartoum to oust the Rapid Reaction Force (RRF) militants from the city and about fierce fighting. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said at the time that Russia was concerned about what was happening in Sudan and was trying to facilitate a settlement.
The situation in Sudan escalated in mid-April 2023 due to disagreements between the Commander-in-Chief of the Sudanese Armed Forces Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and the head of the SIS Mohammed Hamdan Daglo. On the morning of April 15, clashes between the army and special forces began near a military base in the city of Meroe and in Khartoum. The ongoing conflict has created a humanitarian crisis in the country, leading to famine and disease outbreaks.
