At a school fair in Nigeria, 35 children died due to a stampede

As a result of a crush at a school fair in Nigeria, 35 children died. This was reported by the local edition of Punch on December 19.
The crush occurred at a school in the city of Ibadan, when participants rushed to get to the venue through the main gate. The fair was meant for 5,000 children but more than 7,000 attended.
The Oyo State police have launched an investigation into the incident and arrested the main organizers of the event. Nigerian President Bola Tinubu expressed condolences to the families of the victims and called on the state government to review and strengthen security measures at public events.
Earlier on October 7, five people were killed and more than 90 injured after an air show in India. The local health ministry said the deaths of spectators could have been caused by "high fever". However, the Indian opposition said that people died because of the crush caused by the improper organization of the event.
