Russian President Vladimir Putin and Uzbek leader Shavkat Mirziyoyev agreed during a telephone conversation to continue cooperation in the fight against terrorism. This was reported by the Kremlin press service on December 19.

During the telephone conversation between the two leaders, Mirziyoyev expressed condolences over the death of Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov, head of the chemical, radiation and biological defense troops of the Russian Armed Forces, and his assistant Ilya Polikarpov.

In addition, as the press service noted, Uzbekistan strongly condemned the terrorist act.

"The intention to continue close cooperation between the special services of the two countries in the sphere of countering terrorism has been emphasized," the message on the Kremlin's official website reads.

It is noted that the head of Uzbekistan also congratulated Vladimir Putin on holding a press conference on the results of the year.

The press service added that both leaders confirmed further consistent development of mutually beneficial Russian-Uzbek relations in all areas.

Kirillov and his assistant were killed on the morning of December 17 when an explosive device was detonated in a scooter near the entrance of a residential building on Ryazansky Avenue in Moscow. A criminal case of murder, terrorist act and illegal arms trafficking was opened.

The next day the FSB reported the detention of a 29-year-old man in the case of the murder of Kirillov and his assistant. During interrogation, the attacker said that he had been recruited by the Ukrainian security services. The man was arrested until February 17.
