Investigators have opened a criminal case against Ukrainian militants who killed four civilians who were drinking water at a well in the village of Plekhovo in Kursk Region. This was reported on December 19 in the press service of the main military investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation.
"A criminal case has been opened against the militants of the VFU (armed formations of Ukraine. - Ed.), as well as other Ukrainian paramilitary groups and members of mercenary formations, who committed a terrorist act against the peaceful population of the Kursk region," the TASS news agency quoted the press service as saying.
According to the investigation, on December 7, Ukrainian militants, together with mercenaries fighting on their side, while in the village of Plekhovo, Sujan district, Kursk region, killed four civilians who were drawing drinking water from a well, another person was killed near a residential house.
"In the course of the preliminary investigation, all representatives of the armed formations of Ukraine involved in this crime will be identified and brought to the responsibility stipulated by law," the report said.
Earlier on December 19, Russian President Vladimir Putin said during the "Results of the Year" that the number of armored vehicles of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) hit in the Kursk region has already surpassed the number of all vehicles hit last year along the entire line of contact. He added that the Russian servicemen would receive all due payments for their exploits.
Later in the day, the Russian Defense Ministry reported that the AFU in the Kursk region had lost more than 225 servicemen in a day. The enemy's equipment was also destroyed. Among it - one tank, three infantry fighting vehicles (BMP), five armored fighting vehicles, two vehicles, 155-millimeter self-propelled artillery unit Krab made in Poland, three 122-millimeter howitzers D-30, 122-millimeter self-propelled artillery unit 2S1 "Gvozdika", as well as a field ammunition depot.
The AFU attacked Russian positions in the border areas of Kursk Region on August 6. The situation in the region was recognized as a federal emergency. The liquidation of the Ukrainian militants who invaded the Russian territory is underway.
The special operation to protect Donbass, the beginning of which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the background of the aggravated situation in the region.
