Court arrests suspect in General Kirillov murder case


Basmanny court of Moscow has arrested Akhmad Kurbanov, a suspect in the terrorist attack that killed the head of the Russian Radiation, Chemical and Biological Defense Forces (RCDBZ), Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov and his assistant Ilya Polikarpov, until February 17. This is reported by the correspondent of "Izvestia" from the courtroom on December 19.
Thus, the petition of the investigator was satisfied. The hearing of the case was held in closed mode. The defendant was provided with an interpreter to communicate with the judges.
Kurbanov is charged under three articles of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation: part 3 of article 205 ("Terrorist act resulting in death"), article 221.1 ("Illegal acquisition of explosives") and article 223 ("Illegal manufacture of weapons").
Kirillov and his assistant were killed on the morning of December 17 as a result of detonation of an explosive device, which was placed in a scooter near the entrance of an apartment building on Ryazansky Avenue in Moscow. A criminal case of murder, terrorist act and illegal arms trafficking has been opened.
The FSB reported the detention of the 29-year-old suspect the very next day. During interrogation, the attacker said that he had been recruited by the Ukrainian security services. He could face punishment up to life imprisonment. Later, on December 19, investigative actions were conducted with the suspect.
Russian President Vladimir Putin said on December 19 that the murder of the general and his aide was committed in a way that was dangerous for many. He characterized the crime as a terrorist act.
