The girlfriend of the victim of the train accident near Murmansk found out about the accident by chance

The girlfriend of the young man who died when a train collided with a freight train in the Murmansk region told Izvestia on December 19 that she learned about the tragedy accidentally from news on social networks a few hours later.

"I didn't know about what happened yet, and I didn't see the news. I didn't read them all day, I was working <...>. I saw [the publication in Telegram], decided to read the news in more detail. Only then I realized that he was driving there," she said.

According to the girl, when she was able to contact doctors, she was told that the young man was in a stable serious condition. However, a short time later, she was informed that he had died. Also traveling in another carriage was the father of her acquaintance. The girl reported that their part of the train was not injured and was able to continue traveling.

The sister of the other dead girl told Izvestia that she was informed about the incident by her second sister, who was also in the carriage.

"The sister got in touch as soon as she got on the train. We were in touch with her about whether <...> everything was OK. Then the middle sister reported what happened because they were traveling together," she said.

The woman added that the second sister is in hospital, she was transferred from the intensive care unit to an inpatient unit.

Thecollision of two trains occurred on December 18 at the arrival of a passengertrain at the station Knyazhaya. The passenger train, traveling on the route Murmansk - St. Petersburg, collided with a freight train. As a result of the collision, three cars of the passenger train and several freight cars derailed.

According to the latest data, the accident killed two people, 31 people were injured. The Ministry of Health specifies that 10 victims, including three children, are in serious condition. Seven victims of the accident were transferred to regional medical centers, five of them are being treated in the regional hospital.

According to the passengers, some of them were miraculously unharmed. At the moment of the incident, the lights went out, everything around shook, there was smoke and sparks. One woman noted that she and her husband were not physically hurt, but were stressed during the incident.

A criminal case was opened under Article 263 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. According to preliminary data, the collision of trains occurred due to spontaneous movement of a faulty freight train.

Later it was reported that the traffic at the site of the collision was restored. It was added that for the time being the trains will pass in reverse mode along one track.
