Beglov spoke about the development of assistance to cancer patients in St. Petersburg

Thanks to the support of the federal center and, above all, the Ministry of Health, there are now cancer centers in every district of St. Petersburg. All of them are equipped with modern equipment, said Alexander Beglov, Governor of St. Petersburg.

In the broadcast of the program "Results of the Year with Vladimir Putin", the Russian President praised the work of St. Petersburg medics in the treatment of oncological diseases. "We have begun to produce complex drugs, including for fighting cancer. This is developing very well in St. Petersburg," the head of state noted.

"We have included health care among the ten priorities for the development of the megacity. Close attention is paid to the prevention and treatment of oncological diseases. For example, the Berezin Sergey Medical Institute today provides assistance at the expense of OMC to patients with cancer. Children are treated there separately at the expense of the city budget using proton therapy methods. St. Petersburg has become the first city in the world where all children in need of proton therapy can receive treatment free of charge," said Alexander Beglov.

Thanks to timely diagnostics about 58.6% of cancer cases in St. Petersburg are detected at an early stage, the Governor noted. He also reminded that pharmaceutical products of St. Petersburg enterprises occupy almost 25% of the Russian market. The enterprises of the Northern Capital produce 430 names of medicines, almost half of them are vital.

"St. Petersburg pharma cluster is one of the largest in Russia. We have more than 150 companies of the industry, 30 scientific institutes and educational institutions. Our companies produce 430 names of drugs, of which almost half are included in the list of vital and essential drugs. The companies are developing high-tech production facilities and are engaged in the development of new demanded pharmaceutical forms," the Governor emphasized.
