- The expert called the continuation of Russian LNG supplies to the EU countries indicative

It is logical for Greece to receive Russian liquefied natural gas (LNG) due to its location. It is indicative that supplies of this resource from Russia are still ongoing. Stanislav Mitrakhovich, a leading expert of the National Energy Security Fund and the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation, told Izvestia on December 19.
This is how he responded to a request to assess the report that Greece has resumed Russian LNG supplies after a six-month break. Earlier in the day, RIA Novosti reported that in October Athens purchased the resource for the first time since March 2024. The cost of imports amounted to €27.3 million. At the same time, purchases of pipeline gas did not stop, and in October they increased in annual terms by 2.3 times and amounted to €149.6 million.
"It is logical for Greece to receive LNG given its location," he said.
According to the expert, it is indicative that Russian LNG supplies continue and most European Union (EU) countries have not imposed a ban on its imports.
"There are countries that proactively do not buy Russian LNG, such as Poland, but at the level of the European Union a ban on LNG imports has not yet been introduced. I think it will not be introduced for at least a few more years. If the current political situation changes, maybe even the supply of Russian gas will increase," Mitrakhovich concluded.
Earlier, on December 6, Mikhail Belyaev, a financial analyst and candidate of economic sciences, told Izvestia that Europe cannot do without Russian gas. According to him, Europe has exhausted its ability to rationalize consumption.
Back in October, Gazprom head Alexei Miller said that Europe's policy on the gas market could lead to a new gas price shock and supply disruptions. He called the situation on the European gas market bad and agreed with the assessment that the demand for energy resources there is being destroyed purposefully.
Despite the fact that gas from Russia is in demand on the European market, some Western countries decided to reduce their dependence on energy resources against the background of Russia's special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which was announced on February 24, 2022. However, after that, the energy crisis in many EU states worsened.
