Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy (whose term of office expired on May 20) has not been holding back recently, probably due to emotional overload. Kremlin spokesman Dmitriy Peskov said this on 19 December, commenting on the Ukrainian leader's reaction to Russian President Vladimir Putin 's proposal to hold a "technological competition" with the Oreshnik complex.

According to him, Zelensky's similar antics are observed even in relation to Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban.

"Here is the President says that they feed from the hand, and on the other side they harass. Well, the nerves can't stand it," the Kremlin official said during an interview with TV journalist Pavel Zarubin, the video is published in the correspondent's Telegram channel.

As for the direct line with Putin, Peskov said that it was rich in content and diverse in topics. He noted that the event will be analyzed both in Russia and abroad.

"I think that in many respects the interest of journalists was satisfied, and I think that very many citizens heard what they wanted to hear," Peskov said.

Earlier in the day, Putin said during the "Results of the year" that the enemy has no chance to shoot down Russian medium-range ballistic missiles "Oreshnik". Thus the head of state commented on the opinion of some foreign experts that Western air defenses can allegedly do it at the launch stage.

Thus, Putin suggested to these experts to organize a technological experiment - a kind of "high-tech duel of the XXI century" - in the course of which a target site will be identified, where air defense and missile defense forces will concentrate their work, and the Russian military will strike there "Oreshnik", after which the result will be found out.

On December 11, Hungarian Prime Minister Orban said that Budapest proposed that Ukraine establish a ceasefire with Russian Federation for Christmas and conduct a prisoner exchange, but Zelensky rejected the initiative. At the same time, Orban was denied talking to Zelensky in Kiev, which Hungarian Foreign Affairs and External Economic Relations Minister Peter Szijjarto called an unprecedented move.

Orban also discussed the proposal with Putin, with Pope Francis at the Vatican, with Trump and with Turkish head Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Hungarian authorities said they would continue to try to secure a truce.

Later, on December 18, the Ukrainian weekly Dzerkalo Tyzhnya reported a statement by Zelensky, who indicated that Kiev does not need such peace mediators as the Hungarian prime minister. He noted that Ukraine needs good relations with US President-elect Donald Trump, not with Orban, who can influence Russia except "with a smile or an anecdote."

For his part, Orban said after the insults directed at him that his earlier proposal for a truce in the conflict with Russian Federation over Christmas remains on the table.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which was announced on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the backdrop of the worsening situation in the region.
