Residents of the United States and other Western countries are attentive to the statements made by Russian President Vladimir Putin during the "Results of the Year". In addition, the Russian leader answered more citizens' questions in 10 minutes than U.S. President Joe Biden did last year. This opinion was shared with Izvestia on December 19 by lawyer, political scientist and former Pennsylvania Senator Bruce Marks.

"Because of the time difference between Russia and the United States, I think not many people watched the broadcast live. It goes on for hours, and that's a good thing. President Putin probably answered more questions from his constituents in 10 minutes than President Biden did in all of last year. However, people in the United States and in the West are clearly paying attention to what President Putin says," he said.

According to the interlocutor of the publication, the greatest interest for the residents of the Western countries was represented by the comments of the Russian president on the topics of Ukraine, the Gaza Strip and Syria. Marks also added that the administration of US President-elect Donald Trump will look not for a way to increase funding for the conflict in Ukraine, but for a way to end it.

"I think that's what diplomacy is for. President Putin at least once said that politics is the art of compromise. And we hope that President Trump will become a bridge between Russia and Ukraine and find a way to find a compromise in the current situation," the former senator added.

He suggested that Trump treats Putin as an equal and there will be no question of strength and weakness in their talks. Thus, the politician emphasized, if the heads of state respect each other, they will be able to find a way out of the Ukrainian crisis.

"The results of the year" with Vladimir Putin took place earlier in the day and lasted 4.5 hours. This format, which combines a direct line and a press conference for the media, allows the president to convey his position not only on citizens' issues, but also on the state and world agenda, which is often asked about by journalists, including those from Western countries.

Thus, during his speech, Putin emphasized that what is needed in Ukraine is not a ceasefire, but a long-term peace with guarantees. The Russian leader also pointed out that the truce would allow the enemy to retrain its manpower and consolidate its positions.
