Experts talked about useful and pointless driver assistance systems

Not all modern car systems are equally useful on the roads around the world. Experts of SberAuto service told Izvestia on December 20 which car options are reliable assistants for domestic drivers, and which ones can be neglected for the time being.

Speaking about the options, which can be abandoned by motorists, experts noted parking autopilot. According to them, this system does not always cope with narrow yards and non-standard parking spaces, which abound in small Russian cities.

They also said that the system of recognizing road signs in Russian realities is often wrong because of the specifics of markings or its absence and the unstable state of signs.

In addition, automatic switching of high beam on poorly lit highways in the regions can be triggered too late, blinding other drivers.

Another function - voice control of multimedia - often does not recognize commands in Russian, especially in budget models, specified in the service.

At the same time, experts recommended choosing a blind spot monitoring system.

"On Russian roads, drivers often face unexpected rearrangements in heavy traffic. Blind spot monitoring helps avoid collisions by warning about cars out of sight. It is especially useful for city driving and long highway routes," explained the experts.

A rearview camera and all-round visibility are also useful. In tight parking lots in megacities or in conditions of limited visibility cameras become a real salvation, emphasized in the service. At the same time, the all-round view allows you to see obstacles from all sides.

In addition, such a function as automatic emergency braking (AEB) is important. The system independently reacts to the danger of collision, if the driver is distracted. According to experts, it is especially useful in the cold season, when you need to react to an obstacle in advance. The service advised to choose models with a system capable of recognizing not only cars, but also pedestrians.

Specialists also noted the heating of the windshield and mirrors. This option is indispensable for winters in most Russian regions. But it is important that the heating spread over the entire area of the glass.

Lane keeping assistant is also a useful option.

"On the highways and byways of our large country, this system helps to keep the direction of travel, warning of dangerous lane crossings. Especially relevant for those who spend a lot of time behind the wheel," - emphasized in the service.

Earlier, on December 17, experts "Auto.ru Evaluation" told "Izvestia" that in November 2024, the average cost of a car with mileage not older than 15 years in Russia amounted to 2.01 million rubles. This is 0.5% lower than in October and 12% less than at the beginning of the year. At the same time, the number of active ads for sale for 11 months increased by 57%.
