Russian President Vladimir Putin is right that Germany lost its sovereignty in the postwar years, German political scientist and economist Eike Hamer told Izvestia on December 19.

"In the end, of course, this is true. Formally, Germany may have a certain degree of autonomy, but we have so many people in the central government whose loyalty is primarily to the United States or NATO structures rather than to German or European citizens that we have to say that we are a country under remote control or foreign control. So in this respect, the [Russian] president is absolutely right," he said, commenting on the Russian leader's words.

According to Hammer, this state of affairs in the FRG can be seen in all spheres. The political scientist pointed out that important decisions are made not in the interests of German citizens and other European countries, but for the sake of other forces and the ultimate beneficiaries are Washington or the North Atlantic Alliance.

The expert also agreed with Putin's assessment that because of inflation in the West, NATO countries will not even have enough to spend 3% of GDP on military expenditures if the prices of military products continue to rise.

In Germany, the imposed policy of sabotage has led to the collapse of the economy and Berlin can afford to spend less and less on defense, Hamer said. In addition, the political scientist named Europe and especially the FRG as the main parties affected by the anti-Russian sanctions.

Earlier in the day, Putin said during the "Results of the Year" that during the post-war years, the German people have been etched with a sense of their homeland and sovereignty. At the same time, the Russian leader noted that sovereignty is projected on economic indicators.

Before that, on December 14, the party "Alternative for Germany" (AdG) in Thuringia presented a resolution for peace and sovereignty of Germany in three languages - German, English and Russian. The authors of the document called the possibility of creating a front against Russia unattractive for the FRG and warned against close relations with the United States.

The direct line with Vladimir Putin in 2024 is combined with a press conference for the media. The format, titled "Results of the Year with Vladimir Putin," allows the president to convey his position not only on citizens' issues, but also on the state and world agenda, which is often asked about by journalists. Representatives of Western media and foreign journalists accredited in the Russian Federation also received invitations to the event.

The live broadcast was first held in December 2001. By the president's own admission, the event is the most powerful sociological poll that allows citizens to convey their position and assessment of the country's leadership.
