Olympic volleyball champion Vladimir Dorokhov died at the age of 70


Olympic champion, Soviet volleyball player Vladimir Dorokhov died at the age of 70. This was reported on Thursday, December 19, by the press service of the All-Russian Volleyball Federation (VFV).
"With deep regret we inform that on December 18 at the 71st year of life passed away an outstanding athlete, Olympic champion, Honored Master of Sports of the USSR Vladimir Vyacheslavovich Dorokhov", - stated in the message on the website of the Federation.
The reasons and circumstances of the passing away are not specified.
Vladimir Dorokhov, born in 1954 in Sukhumi, was an outstanding volleyball player. Having started playing at the age of 10, he played for Burevestnik, CSKA and Avtomobilist, making his debut in the USSR national team in 1975. As a member of Vyacheslav Platonov's team, he won an Olympic gold medal in 1980 in Moscow, a silver medal in 1976 in Montreal, twice became world champion (1978, 1982), twice won the World Cup (1977, 1981) and four times won the European Championship.
