The peace initiatives of China, Brazil and South Africa to resolve the situation in Ukraine are a sincere attempt to find a solution, Russian President Vladimir Putin said on December 19 during the "Results of the Year."

"As for China's peace initiatives. These are also peace initiatives of Brazil, South Africa. Why did we pay attention to it? Because a sincere attempt to find a solution. In our opinion, this attempt is balanced and does not impose anything on either side - neither Ukraine nor Russia. And it is done by such neutral countries that do not interfere in the conflict," the Russian leader said.

Putin compared these attempts to the actions of Western states, which are actually at war with Russia by the hands of Ukrainians.

The Russian president also noted that the Russian military records on the battlefield the depletion of personnel and equipment deficit of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). In addition, he pointed to the poor training of Ukrainian troops.

Earlier in the day, Putin reminded of Russia's readiness to negotiate with Ukraine, but Kiev refused to dialog. Moscow is ready to conduct a dialog on Ukraine without preconditions, but on the basis of the Istanbul agreements and realities on the ground, he emphasized. Putin also pointed out that what is needed in Ukraine is not a ceasefire, but a long-term peace with guarantees.

Prior to that, on December 12, Chinese President Xi Jinping said that Beijing supports the need to promote an early "détente" of the situation in Ukraine. According to him, China adheres to three principles in the issue of the Ukrainian crisis - to prevent the expansion of the war zone, the escalation of the conflict and the fanning of fire by any of the parties.
