The Federation Council Committee supported an increase in fines for traffic violations


The Federation Council Committee on Constitutional Legislation and State Building has supported and recommended approval of the law that increases fines for a number of traffic violations and introduces punishment for repeated driving without a CMTPL insurance policy. This was reported by TASS on December 19. According to the agenda of the Federation Council meeting, the bill will be considered on Friday.
Amendments to increase fines for traffic violations State Duma adopted at once in the II and III readings on December 12. Fines will be increased by an average of 1.5 times, the law should come into force on January 1, 2025.
Thus, for speeding at 20-40 km / h (the most common violation of the rules) the fine will be 750 rubles instead of 500 rubles. The maximum fine for speeding (80 km/h and above) will increase from Br5 thousand to Br7.5 thousand. The fine for driving through a red traffic light will be increased from Br1 thousand to Br1.5 thousand. For driving on the side of the road - from Br1.5 thousand to Br2.5 thousand, for failure to comply with the requirements of markings and signs - from Br500 to Br750, for turning left or turning in the wrong place - from Br1-1.5 thousand to Br1.5-2.5 thousand.
Among other things, the fine for failure to comply with the rules of seat belt use will increase from Br1 thousand to Br1.5 thousand. The fine for drivers under the influence of alcohol will increase from Br30 thousand to Br45 thousand. The amendments also provide for a reduction from 50% to 25% of the discount, with which the driver can pay the fine. In addition, 30 days instead of 20 will be given to pay the fine with a discount.
December 12, the State Duma passed a bill to introduce a fine of up to Br5 thousand for repeated driving without a MTPL policy. The Russian Union of Auto Insurers supported the bill, but noted that the new penalty will be effective only if the violation is recorded by automatic cameras.
