Court recognizes arrest of ex-Ministry of Transport deputy head in fraud case as lawful

The Moscow City Court on December 19 declared lawful the arrest of former Russian Deputy Transport Minister Alexei Semenov in the case of fraud on a particularly large scale.

"The ruling of the Dorogomilovsky court of Moscow to leave unchanged, the appeal - without satisfaction," - reports the judge's decision "RIA Novosti".

The fact that Semenov filed an appeal, it became known earlier, December 4.

The detention of the former Deputy Minister was reported on November 30. He is charged with violation of part 4 of article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Fraud committed by an organized group on a large scale"). Employees of the economic security service of the FSB revealed the fact of embezzlement of more than Br240 million in the execution of the state contract, concluded in October 2012.

Later, on December 3, the second defendant in the Semenov criminal case, Vyacheslav Smirnov, was sent to pre-trial detention.

The deputy head of the Ministry of Transport was retired in November 2020. He was in charge of digital development at the ministry.
