Putin noted the development of pharma companies in Russia

Russian President Vladimir Putin noted during the "Results of the Year" that previously pharmacology was developed exclusively at the expense of budget funds, while today pharmaceutical companies have started to invest their own resources in development.

"Pharma is the most important direction of our activity. <...> In 2008 we started to talk about it, began to create certain programs. In 2009, these programs were formulated. They had different names, but the essence is the same - the development of our own pharmaceutical industry," the president said.

He noted that earlier pharmacology was developed mainly with the support of the state and the federal budget, but now pharmaceutical companies have begun to invest their own resources, amounting to tens of billions of rubles, in the development.

"We started to create our own drugs on the basis of our own molecules, we started to create our own substances, which we did not have before. We have started to produce complex drugs, including those to fight cancer," Putin added.

He noted that there is a program for the development of pharmacology, which is included in the project of technological leadership. It is expected that by 2030 the Russian Federation should reach 90% provision with its own drugs, and 40% for medical devices.

"The issue of medicine - I see them in the context of the whole complex of issues, they are in second place, in my opinion <...> it [the issue of medicine] is always a very important issue in all countries, by the way, and in countries with developed market economies, and there even today, perhaps, more acute than in our country," the Russian leader said.

He added that the main problem with staffing is in the primary health care system. However, despite the fact that the Ministry of Health is trying to attract as many applicants as possible, it is necessary to continue work to strengthen the system, and all this should be done at a greater pace.
