Russian President Vladimir Putin said during a direct line on December 19 that when a problem that needs to be solved reaches him, there are different points of view. Thus, he answered the question of why officials ask for his instructions to start doing something.

"There is no need to swear at officials. <...> The fact is that the decision-making process is not an easy one. <...> There are different points of view. And some colleagues think it should be solved this way, others think it should be solved that way. And assignments, as a rule, are needed in order to decide," the president said.

As the Russian leader noted, when some dispute arises in the government, colleagues come to him and ask him to "make a final commander's decision" and ask for instructions.

"Then, you know, there are a lot of bureaucratic all sorts of bureaucratic hurdles. Sometimes it's just, even everybody agrees. We need it to be put on paper and enforced as a normative act," he added.

The direct line with Vladimir Putin in 2024 is combined with a press conference for the media. The format called "Results of the Year with Vladimir Putin" allows the president to convey his position not only on citizens' issues, but also on the state and world agenda, which is often asked by journalists.

Representatives of Western media and foreign journalists accredited in Russia have also received invitations to the events. As of the morning of December 19, the number of requests sent to the direct line with the president exceeded 2 million.

The first live broadcast was held in December 2001. By the President's own admission, this event is the most powerful sociological poll, which allows citizens to convey their position and assessment of the country's leadership.
