The Russian Embassy in Poland said Thursday, December 19, that it has no new information on the case of Russian ice hockey player Maxim Sergeyev, who was arrested on charges of alleged espionage.
"In July 2023, the Russian consul met with Sergeyev at the place of his detention. According to him, the conditions of detention were satisfactory, he was provided with legal defense. At the request of the embassy he was given the opportunity to maintain telephone communication with relatives and a lawyer, as well as postal communication with the embassy", - stated in the message of the diplomatic mission.
It is specified that after the announcement of the verdict to the athlete there were no new appeals from Sergeyev and his relatives.
On the eve it became known that the Polish authorities passed a sentence on the hockey player, accusing him of alleged espionage activities. The athlete received two years and 11 months in prison. From Sergeyev was seized money, which he received allegedly for his work as a spy, and 7.28 grams of marijuana.
