ERR learned about plans to ban Estonians from attending Russian events

The Estonian government has supported the proposal of Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna to ban residents of the country from participating in events in Russia and Belarus. This was reported on December 19 by the national broadcasting portal ERR.
"Violators of the ban will face a monetary fine or imprisonment for five years," the portal writes.
According to its data, the authorities plan to ban aid and support for such events. The initiative is aimed at protecting the Estonian people from alleged "hostile influence".
Earlier, in the spring of 2013, Estonia banned events on May 9 with the use of St. George ribbons. In addition to St. George ribbons, the list of so-called hostile symbols includes flags of Russia and the USSR and Soviet military uniforms. At the same time, holding prohibited events will be punishable by a fine or imprisonment for up to a year.
