The Russian Defense Ministry needs to speed up the decision on payments to the families of the captured participants of the special military operation. This was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin during the "Results of the Year" on December 19.

He called the issue very sensitive. According to Putin, it is one thing when a person participates in combat operations and quite another when military personnel "disappear from the radar."

"When a person disappears from the radar, there is a question of family support here. <...> Here at least two things need to be done. First, it is necessary to take, speed up or shorten the terms of final decisions, because there is no information, people stop, families stop receiving appropriate payments, because the person is gone, he does not participate in either offensive or defensive activities, combat there do not receive and so on," he said.

Secondly, the president continued, the Russian Defense Ministry together with the government should determine what can replace some payments. He specified that there are various proposals, such as creating children's allowances or making other decisions. However, it is important to speed up the process of resolving this issue, the head of state emphasized.

Earlier, on November 14, Putin increased the size of a one-time payment to the participants of the SSO when injured resulting in disability to 4 million rubles. Thus, the military, who received a payment of 3 million rubles for a severe injury, will receive an additional 1 million rubles after the establishment of disability.

The direct line with Vladimir Putin in 2024 is combined with a press conference for the media. The format called "Results of the Year with Vladimir Putin" allows the president to convey his position not only on citizens' issues, but also on the state and world agenda, which is often asked by journalists.

Representatives of Western media and foreign journalists accredited in the Russian Federation also received invitations to the event. As of the morning of December 19, the number of appeals sent to the direct line with the president exceeded 2 million.
