The main beneficiary of the events in Syria is Israel, the Russian Federation condemns the seizure of any Syrian territories, and this position is not subject to adjustment. This was stated by Russian President Vladimir Putin during the "Results of the Year" on December 19.

The Russian leader expressed hope that Israel would withdraw from Syria, but as of today Tel Aviv is only bringing additional troops to the Syrian border.

"The main beneficiary is, in my opinion, Israel. We hope that Israel will withdraw from Syria at some point, but right now it is only putting additional troops there. Already, I think, several thousand troops there. And I have the impression that they are not only not going to leave, but are going to strengthen there," Putin said.

The head of state added that the local population of Syria has already asked to be included in the Jewish state, which could aggravate the situation.

The situation in Syria escalated as a result of a major attack by armed formations in Aleppo and Idlib, which began on November 28 and led to the Syrian army's retaliation against the militants. In early December, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, after negotiations with the opposition, left the post of head of state and left the country. Against this backdrop, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that the demarcation agreement with Syria has been terminated due to the withdrawal of Syrian troops. The IDF deployed forces along the Syrian border and took control of the Hermon mountain range.

The direct line with Vladimir Putin in 2024 is combined with a press conference for the media. The format called "The Year's Results with Vladimir Putin" allows the president to convey his position not only on citizens' issues, but also on the state and world agenda, which is often asked about by journalists. Representatives of Western media and foreign journalists accredited in Russia have also received invitations to the events.

As of the morning of December 19, the number of requests sent to the direct line with the president exceeded 2 million. The first live broadcast was held in December 2001. By the President's own admission, this event is the most powerful sociological poll, which allows citizens to convey their position and assessment of the country's leadership.
