Putin forecasts Russia's GDP growth to 4% in 2024

The growth of the gross domestic product (GDP) of the Russian Federation in 2024 will amount to 3.9-4%. This was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin during the "Results of the Year" on December 19.
The head of state called the economy the basis of stability and defense capability of the Russian Federation. He added that Russia is developing despite external threats.
"Last year, as you know, we had 3.6% economic growth. This year it will be 3.9%, and maybe even 4%," Putin said.
The president emphasized that the Russian economy has grown about 8% in two years. According to him, the leading economies of the eurozone, as well as the United States, do not have such results.
"International institutions, financial and economic, have put Russia in first place in Europe in terms of economic volume, in purchasing power parity, and in fourth place in the world. Ahead of China, the United States, India. We overtook the Federal Republic of Germany last year, and this year we overtook Japan. But this is not an indicator on which we should fall asleep and calm down," he emphasized.
Putin also noted that a serious indicator for all economies is unemployment, which in Russia is at a record low of 2.3%. In addition, he called inflation, which has already amounted to 9.2-9.3%, an alarming signal. At the same time, the head of state emphasized that wages have increased by 9% in real terms.
"In general, this situation is stable, I repeat, and reliable. We have both the government and the Central Bank also set the task to land these rates. Next year, according to various estimates, we should have somewhere between 2-2.5%," the president said.
Earlier, on December 4, Putin reported that Russia's gross domestic product grew by 4.1% between January and October 2024. The growth is concentrated in manufacturing industries, in sectors with high added value, the President noted.
Prior to that, on November 12, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin drew attention to the fact that the dynamics of the country's GDP increase is much higher than the same indicator in countries that have imposed anti-Russian sanctions.
The direct line with Vladimir Putin in 2024 is combined with a press conference for the media.
