As a result of the collision of passenger and freight trains in Murmansk region, 10 victims are in serious condition. This was reported by Assistant Minister of Health of the Russian Federation Alexei Kuznetsov to journalists on December 19.

He specified that, according to operational data, hospitals in the region provide medical care to 14 victims, including three children.

"The condition of ten patients, including three children, doctors assess as serious," he said, adding that four more injured are in a state of average severity.

Thecollision of two trains occurred on December 18 at the arrival of a passengertrain at the station Knyazhaya in the Murmansk region. The passenger train, traveling on the route Murmansk - St. Petersburg, collided with a freight train.

According to the latest data, the accident killed two people, 31 people were injured.

A criminal case under Article 263 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Violation of the rules of safety of movement and operation of railway transport, resulting in the death of two people") was initiated over the accident. Investigators detained the driver of the freight train, as well as his assistant. They are suspected of violating traffic safety rules. The issue of selecting a measure of restraint for the detainees is being decided.
