Russians warned of risks of fake New Year sales

Fraudsters using New Year's Eve promotions are gaining access to the bank accounts of Russians. This was reported on December 19 by lawyer, head of the Law Enforcement Center in Moscow and Moscow region Alexander Khaminsky.
He specified that the attackers use two main methods to steal funds: psychological influence on victims and remote access to their smartphones and applications.
According to Khaminskiy, lately con artists have been actively calling citizens with offers to buy goods with discounts of 50% or more. Operators argue that it is necessary to free the warehouses of large retail chains from the surplus of the current assortment, mentioning those goods that Russians usually purchase as New Year gifts.
"When the ground is prepared and the future victim begins to show interest in buying, the attackers offer to send a catalog of goods to email or messenger. The unsuspecting citizen agrees and eventually receives a file with malware," the lawyer toldGazeta.Ru.
To avoid the trap of fraudsters, the expert recommends vigilance and caution, as well as not to agree to send and receive any files from unfamiliar subscribers.
Earlier, on December 14, an expert of the "People's Front" project "For the rights of borrowers", curator of the platform "Moshelovka" Alla Khrapunova told about a new method of fraud with the help of parcel notifications. She specified that attackers send out messages from well-known delivery services. When clicking on the link, the victim gets to a fake site of the delivery service, which looks completely like the original. After that, the recipient is asked for personal data and payment details.
