Investigators have detained the driver of the freight train that collided with a passenger train in Murmansk region, as well as his assistant. This was reported on December 19 in the Western interregional investigative Department on transport of the IC of Russia.

"They are suspected of violating the rules of safety of movement and operation of railway transport, resulting in the death of two people (part 3 of article 263 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation)," - specified in the Telegram-channel of the department.

At present, the issue of selecting a measure of restraint for the workers is being resolved, the department added.

According to investigators, the accident resulted in the derailment and damage to four passenger and 14 freight cars.

Thecollision of two trains occurred on December 18 at the arrival of a passengertrain at the station Knyazhaya in the Murmansk region. The passenger train, traveling on the route Murmansk - St. Petersburg, collided with a freight train.

According to the latest data, the accident killed two people, 31 people were injured.

A criminal case under Article 263 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation was initiated over the accident. Then the head of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation, Alexander Bastrykin, demanded a report on the progress of the investigation.
