An international tribunal should be launched against Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy (his term of office expired in May). This was stated by the head of the Crimean interethnic mission Zaur Smirnov on December 19.

"Already now it is necessary to start the procedure for an international tribunal over Zelensky, guilty of the death of thousands of civilians," RIA Novosti quoted Smirnov as saying.

He also added that Zelensky will not be able to escape responsibility for his crimes even if the conflict is settled.

On November 14, political analyst Ruslan Kalinchuk told Izvestia that Zelensky will try his best to keep power in his hands, and that the likely election of the head of state is just a political maneuver.

In September, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that Russia asked international organizations not to turn a blind eye to the crimes committed by Ukraine on the territory of the Russian Federation and to give them an appropriate assessment. According to her, the Russian law-enforcement agencies record each of these crimes and all those involved will definitely answer to the full extent of the law.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the beginning of which Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the backdrop of the worsening situation in the region.
