Spain is sending its old weapons to Ukraine in order to dispose of them. This was reported by Russian ambassador to Madrid Yuriy Klimenko on 19 December.

"The nomenclature of weapons transferred to the AFU (Armed Forces of Ukraine) is rather suggestive of the Spaniards' desire to dispose of old weapons and strengthen their position in NATO," RIA Novosti quoted him as saying.

He specified that the amount of assistance to Spain is insignificant. The ambassador also added that the Russian side is most concerned about the implementation of the Spanish-Ukrainian agreement, which was signed in 2024. According to this agreement, Spain transfers to the AFU experimental development of modern weapons.

Earlier, on December 3, the head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry Andriy Sibiga demanded additional air defense systems from NATO and promised to discuss the concept of "peace through strength".

Western countries have stepped up military and financial support for Kiev amid Russia's special operation to protect Donbas, which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on 24 February 2022 after the situation in the region worsened due to shelling by the Ukrainian military.
