Israeli army reported intercepting a rocket fired from Yemen

A missile fired from Yemen heading toward Israel was intercepted by the country's Air Force (IAF) before it entered Jewish airspace. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) press service said on December 19.
"The Israeli Air Force intercepted one rocket fired from Yemen before it crossed into Israeli territory," - noted in a message in the Telegram channel.
It is specified that in connection with the firing and the possibility of falling debris during the interception in several areas of central Israel sounded air-raid sirens.
Earlier, on December 16, it was reported that the Yemeni Houthis struck a hypersonic ballistic missile at a military facility near Tel Aviv. Yahya Saria, a military spokesman for the Houthis, noted that the operation achieved all targets. The spokesperson said that the Yemeni Houthis will conduct IDF military operations until hostilities in the Gaza Strip cease.
Prior to that, on December 13, Saria reported that the Yemeni Houthis carried out an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) strike against Tel Aviv and a military target in Ashkelon. He said two drones were used in the operation and were able to bypass interception systems and reach their targets.
The situation in the Middle East escalated on the morning of October 7, 2023, when the Palestinian radical movement Hamas subjected Israeli territory to a massive rocket attack from the Gaza Strip. On the same day, Israel began retaliatory strikes.
