Pushilin said he had no illusions about Trump's peace initiatives

The authorities in the Donetsk People's Republic have no illusions about the settlement of the conflict in Ukraine after US President-elect Donald Trump comes to power. This was announced by the head of the region Denis Pushilin on December 19.
"The experience of 2016 forces us not to experience any illusions, especially excessive ones, about all peacekeeping utterances," RIA Novosti quoted Pushilin as saying.
He specified that the DNR authorities are going to observe Trump's real actions after he officially takes over as head of the White House. Pushilin added that on the actions of the President-elect in the Ukrainian issue will depend on the decisions of European states.
Earlier, on December 16, Trump said that he was working hard to end the Ukrainian conflict and had already made "a little progress."
Prior to that, on December 13, Trump's team said it was in talks with the current administration and Ukrainian officials to end the conflict in Ukraine. It was noted that the Republican has not yet presented concrete plans for a peaceful settlement.
On the same day, Trump's special envoy for Ukraine Keith Kellogg admitted the end of the conflict in Ukraine in the coming months. According to him, the US President-elect is capable of decisive action on conflict resolution.
Before that, on December 3, was published "Kellogg's Plan" written in April on the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict, the author of which is the future special envoy of Trump. In his opinion, it is necessary to stop political isolation of the Russian Federation, putting pressure on Moscow and Kiev, as well as to start stimulating peaceful settlement more actively. Kellogg suggested the preservation of liberated territories by Russia, the easing of sanctions and the normalization of relations with the United States.
On November 29, the Foreign Intelligence Service pointed to NATO's desire to freeze the conflict in Ukraine in order to rebuild the Ukrainian Armed Forces. It was noted that the West might plan to use the temporary freezing of the conflict to rebuild the Ukrainian army and prepare for a future offensive.
On November 20, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitriy Peskov said that freezing the conflict in Ukraine was not suitable for Russia. At the same time, he noted that head of state Vladimir Putin was ready for contacts and negotiations.
The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the background of the worsening situation in the region.
