Death toll after train collision near Murmansk rises to two

The second passenger died of his injuries after the collision of a freight and passenger trains in the Murmansk region. This was reported by the Governor of the region Andrei Chibis on December 19.

"One passenger died on the way to the hospital, unfortunately, another passenger died in the hospital," he said, his words published in Telegram-channel.

Chibis emphasized that doctors continue to fight for the lives of several passengers. He also added that the main phase of the rescue operation has been completed.

Thecollision of the two trains occurred earlier in the day at the arrival of a passengertrain at Knyazhaya station in the Murmansk region. A passenger train traveling on the Murmansk - St. Petersburg route collided with a freight train. As a result of the collision, three cars of the passenger train and several freight cars derailed.

According to the latest data, 27 people were injured, among them - five children. At the time of the accident in the passenger train was 326 people, including pupils of children's sports school for boxing from Severomorsk. It was noted that the children and the coach were not injured.

A criminal case under Article 263 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Violation of safety rules of movement and operation of railway transport") was initiated on the fact of the accident. Then the head of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation Alexander Bastrykin demanded a report on the progress of the investigation.
