Residents of liberated Krasnogorovka in the Donetsk People's Republic (DNR) told Izvestia about the atrocities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) against the civilian population.

"In the fifth house there should be elderly women, they were shot by the AFU. They either slept in the basement or in the apartment... Some of them were shot by the militants, others were cut. But in this house, where the loggia was, there was a machine gun - the guys took it out later, they said it was NATO," said a local resident.

The man recalled how he and his wife were trying to put out a fire in the entrance when AFU fighters started shooting at them. According to him, such incidents happened often, and a civilian from a neighboring entrance was shot in both legs when he tried to go outside.

As Izvestia correspondent Yevgeny Bykovsky noted, many high-rise residential buildings in the city were either completely destroyed or seriously damaged.

"The entire entranceway of this five-story residential building was broken through. In the neighboring building all the windows were broken out, there was a fire in one of the apartments, but by the efforts of local residents it was not completely destroyed. Some people continue to live here, rebuild their apartments, get light from generators, and board up the windows," he said.

According to local residents, about 50 people live in one of these high-rise buildings. As resident Ruslan noted, people do not leave the city, as they hope for its restoration.

"I would like everything to start recovering already, we want to rebuild the city ourselves. That's why we stayed here and didn't leave. There are few people left here, but they are all waiting for the best," he said.

The Russian Armed Forces liberated the settlements of Krasnogorovka, Grigorovka, Galitsynovka and Vodyanoye in the Donetsk People's Republic on September 10. At the same time, Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov sent congratulatory telegrams to the motorized rifle brigades for the liberation of Krasnogorovka in the Donetsk People's Republic (DNR).

The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken amid the aggravation of the situation in the region.
