- It became known about the interrogation of the driver in the case of the collision of trains near Murmansk

On the fact of collision of two trains in Murmansk region, the investigation will interrogate the driver of the freight train and his assistant. This was reported by the source of "Izvestia" on December 18.
As the source noted, most likely, after the interrogation, the driver and his assistant will be detained as suspects in a criminal case initiated by the Investigative Committee.
Presumably, the main cause of the accident was a malfunction of the locomotive's forced stop system, due to which the train failed to brake in time.
The driver gave his assistant the task of installing brake shoes to prevent the train from moving, but due to the heaviness of the freight train and the lack of shoes, the train moved during the installation process. The assistant ran after the locomotive for 3 km, but was unable to prevent the collision.
The assistant driver also confirmed to Izvestia that he had been summoned for questioning.
Kandalaksha Transport Prosecutor Tatyana Chumakova pointed out that the North-West Transport Prosecutor's Office has put the progress and results of the investigation of the criminal case initiated under Article 263 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Violation of the rules of safety of movement and operation of railway transport") under control.
Thecollision of two trains occurred earlier in the day at the arrival of a passengertrain at Knyazhaya station in the Murmansk region. A passenger train traveling on the Murmansk - St. Petersburg route collided with a freight train. As a result of the collision, three cars of the passenger train and several freight cars derailed.
Health Minister of the Murmansk region Dmitry Panychev reported about 27 injured, among them five children. According to him, all the injured were hospitalized in various central district hospitals.
At the time of the accident in the passenger train were 326 people, including pupils of children's sports school for boxing from Severomorsk. It was noted that the children and the coach were not injured. The press service of Russian Railways reported that one of the victims died in the ambulance. Her identity is being established.
After the collision of the trains, the transport department of the Investigative Committee (IC) of Russia initiated a criminal case under Article 263 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Violation of the rules of safety of movement and operation of railway transport"). The head of the Russian Investigative Committee, Alexander Bastrykin, then demanded a report on the progress of the investigation.
"Izvestia" also published footage from the passenger train. They show people trying to pass from one carriage to another, but because of the deformation, the doors do not open. Some passengers can not get to their belongings, as they remained in the affected parts of the train.
