Head of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation Alexander Bastrykin demanded a report on the progress of the investigation into the collision of trains in the Kandalaksha district of Murmansk region. This was reported in the press service of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation on December 18.
"The Chairman of the IC of Russia instructed the head of the ZMSUT of the IC of Russia Vyments P.S. to submit a report on the incident and the progress of the investigation," - stated in the message of the press service in Telegram-channel.
It is specified that the investigators established a number of checks and examinations.
Earlier in the day it was reported that the number of victims in the collision of trains near the Murmansk region rose to 17. Three victims are in serious condition, the rest, including minors - in a state of moderate severity.
Thecollision of the two trains occurred earlier in the day at the arrival of a passengertrain at Knyazhaya station in the Murmansk region. According to the press service of Russian Railways, a passenger train traveling on the route Murmansk - St. Petersburg collided with a freight train. As a result of the collision, three cars of the passenger train and several freight cars derailed. At the time of the accident there were 326 people in the passenger train, one person died.
After the collision of the trains, the transport department of the Investigative Committee (IC) of Russia opened a criminal case under Article 263 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Violation of the rules of safety of movement and operation of railway transport").
"Izvestia" also published footage from the passenger train. They show people trying to pass from one carriage to another, but because of the deformation, the doors do not open. Some passengers can not get to their belongings, as they remained in the affected parts of the train.
