Yekaterinburg residents infected with botulism were placed in intensive care unit

Residents of Yekaterinburg, who contracted botulism after eating canned fish, are in intensive care. This was reported on December 18 in the press service of the regional Prosecutor's office.
"The victims are currently in the intensive care unit of the infectious disease department of the hospital in serious condition," - stated in the Telegram-channel.
It is established that after consuming the purchased products on December 8, a 37-year-old resident of Yekaterinburg and her 65-year-old mother showed signs of food poisoning. After their condition worsened on December 10 as a result of an ambulance call, one of the victims was taken to a health care facility. The second woman was hospitalized on December 16.
In the course of the inspection, Clostridium botulinum bacteria were found in the products purchased by the female relatives. Establishment of the circumstances of the incident and the results of the inspection are under control of the regional prosecutor's office.
Cases of botulism in Ekaterinburg became known earlier in the day. It is known that two female relatives bought "Sprats in oil from Baltic sprat carcasses" of "Za Rodina" trademark at the mini-market and felt sick. Specialists detected botulinum toxin in the products and in the blood of the victims.
Leonid Tolstobrov, General Director of "Za Rodinu" fish factory, in his conversation with "Izvestia" denied the involvement of sprats produced by the company in these cases of botulism. According to him, the products have passed the necessary inspections and are certified.
