Two captains of oil tankers "Volgoneft-212" and "Volgoneft-239", which crashed in the Black Sea, have been charged. This was reported in the press service of the Investigative Committee (IC) of Russia.

It is established that the oil tankers were shipwrecked in the waters of the Kerch Strait on December 15 in stormy conditions. As a result of the sinking of the vessels there was a spill of fuel oil. In addition, a watch sailor of the Volgoneft-212 died. All the injured were taken to medical institutions.

According to the results of interrogation and searches along the route, the documentation of importance for the investigation was seized. After the weather improves, it is planned to inspect the site of the wreckage of the vessels, as well as to extract the wreckage for the appointment of technical and environmental forensic examinations.

"The investigation is preparing to go to court with a motion to elect a measure of restraint for the accused," the Investigation Committee of the Russian Federation added.

Earlier in the day, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Vitaly Savelyev instructed the Ministry of Nature, the Ministry of Transport and the Ministry of Emergency Situations to develop and submit a plan to eliminate the consequences of the accident with tankers in the Kerch Strait by December 23.

Before that, on December 16, the press service of the Investigative Committee (IC) of Russia for the Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol reported that oil tankers were tested for suitability for transportation of dangerous goods in July this year.

The Emergencies Ministry said that more than 50 people and 11 units of equipment were involved in the elimination of the accident. 13 people were evacuated from the Volgoneft-212 tanker, one of them died. The evacuation of 14 crew members of the tanker "Volgoneft-239" was suspended due to bad weather, they were rescued in the morning of December 16.

Governor of the Krasnodar region Kondratiev said that after the spill of oil products in four settlements of the Kuban introduced a high alert mode. December 17, he specified that after the accident with two tankers fuel oil was carried ashore for dozens of kilometers, in two municipalities of the region introduced a state of emergency. Specialists have determined the algorithm of cleaning works.

Andrei Potakhov, acting head of the Emergency Situations Department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia in Krasnodar Krai, said that the fuel oil spilled in pockets and the cleanup of the contaminated areas is complicated by the storm, which brings oil products from the sea.
