China has significantly increased its nuclear capabilities, increasing the number of nuclear warheads by about 100 over the past year. This is stated in a report published on Wednesday, December 18, on the website of the U.S. Department of Defense.

"The PRC's stockpile stands at more than 600 operational nuclear warheads as of mid-2024, an increase of about 100 over the previous year," the document said.

According to the Pentagon, Beijing will have more than 1,000 nuclear warheads by 2030 and the number will rapidly increase until 2035.

Earlier, on September 19, US Under Secretary of the Air Force (Air Force) Melissa Dalton said that against the background of improvement and development of nuclear forces of China and Russia, the United States should increase the pace of modernization of its strategic deterrent forces. She noted that the pace of growth in China's nuclear policy over the past 20 years is "breathtaking."
