The first ATM accepting Russian "Mir" bank cards has started working in Managua, the capital of Nicaragua. This was announced by the Russian Ambassador to the country Mikhail Ledenev on December 18.

"I want to report to you that the first ATM of "Mir" cards is already working in the city of Managua. Our employees have successfully tested it, received funds from their accounts in Russia here in Managua. So the first step has been taken," he said in a conversation with the TV channel "Russia 24".

The diplomat noted that a second banking device will also be installed in the near future.

Earlier in the day, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that Russia stands firmly in solidarity with Nicaragua, where the collective West has set out to remove the republic's government headed by President Daniel Ortega from power. Moscow is against such interference, the agency's website said.

Prior to that, on December 16, Laureano Ortega, special representative of the Nicaraguan president for the development of relations with Russia , told Izvestia that the ability to withdraw money from cards of the Russian payment system "Mir" in 2025 will appear in several ATMs in Nicaragua. We are talking not only about the capital Managua, but also about other key cities of this state.

Earlier, on December 11, Ortega noted that Nicaragua and Russia are actively working on joint projects in various areas. The main areas of cooperation have been and will continue to be health care, medical technologies, culture and education. He added that the media sphere is also important.
