Sprats producer claims no involvement in botulism cases in Yekaterinburg

Leonid Tolstobrov, general director of Za Rodina FISHZAVOD LLC, denied on December 18 in a conversation with Izvestiya that sprats produced by the company were involved in two cases of botulism in Yekaterinburg.
"Now take our products to special laboratories so that we can confirm to you that everything is sterile," he added.
According to Tolstobrov, the company's products are certified and have passed all the necessary checks.
Cases of botulism in Ekaterinburg became known earlier in the day. Two female relatives bought "Sprats in oil from Baltic sprat carcasses" of "Za Rodina" trademark at the mini-market and felt sick. Specialists detected botulinum toxin in the products and in the blood of the victims. Now the condition of the women is assessed as serious.
