Proper nutrition is the foundation for maintaining health and energy. Our gastronomic preferences influence our metabolism, sleep quality and stress levels. Natalia Pavlovich, an endocrinologist at INVITRO North-West, told Izvestia on December 19 about forming proper eating habits.

"Old habits die hard: whether it's a craving for junk food when we're stressed, or skipping workouts when we're busy - these harmful principles are deeply rooted in the subconscious, and it's hard to change them," Pavlovich notes.

According to her, if you need to change your lifestyle, in most cases you should start with changes in nutrition, because habits in this regard directly affect metabolism, and therefore the physical and psychological state of the person.

According to the expert, the main importance of macronutrients or macronutrients such as fats, proteins and carbohydrates are the three groups of nutrients that supply the body with calories. An important aspect that affects metabolism is the balance between the energy we consume and the energy we expend, which can also be assessed by portion size.

"Meal timing can affect your metabolism almost as much as what you eat. For example, if you don't fuel up properly before a hard workout, it will be hard to sustain it. If you eat late at night, your body may not go into fat-burning mode while you sleep," the doctor said.

In addition, many people spend their days under constant stress, which takes a toll on their health. This can lead to feelings of fatigue, lack of motivation and the urge to eat sweets such as chocolate. In such a situation, the doctor advises adding fermented foods such as yogurt or kimchi to the diet. They are able to improve intestinal health, which, in turn, contributes to improving overall health and mood.

Earlier on December 11, Elena Churakina, a nutritionist and endocrinologist from the SberZdorovye medical company, shared with Izvestia on December 11 recommendations for reducing cravings for sweets. According to her, in order to gradually reduce sugar consumption in the diet, one should find substitutes for sweets, for example, one can replace sweets with fresh fruits and berries.
