- Russian ambassador to London said about the impact of the use of "Nutshell" on Britain's position

The use of the Russian medium-range ballistic missile Oreshnik in Ukraine has forced the UK to take a more balanced position on strikes with long-range weapons deep inside Russia. Russian Ambassador to London Andrei Kelin said on December 18.
"We responded to the use of [long-range missiles] Storm Shadow deep into Russian territory. This is also obvious. The feeling is that a little bit here has become more cautious about this topic, more balanced," he said in an interview with Rossiya 24 TV channel.
According to the diplomat's assessment, the UK has realized that the appearance of these missile systems is a new factor and is closely watching what is happening, Gazeta.Ru added.
Earlier, on December 3, Kelin expressed the opinion that the British society remained under a strong impression after the use of the Oreshnik missile on military targets on the territory of Ukraine. At the same time, United Kingdom officials are trying to send calming signals in an attempt to convince otherwise, the diplomat pointed out.
The live test of the Oreshnik ballistic missile, one of Russia's newest medium-range missile systems, was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on Nov. 21. The step was taken in response to the escalation by Western countries in Ukraine. In the following days, the head of state clarified that Russia would continue testing and that a decision on the serial production of the missiles had already been made.
In early December, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko asked Putin to supply the country with Russian systems to launch the Oreshnik. The Russian leader allowed their deployment in the republic in the second half of 2025.
